HTML 5.0, A Brief Introduction
Written by Daniel Longieliere

HTML 5, also known as WebApplications 1.0 is actually
two developments rolled into one. (Think of a hamburger with a bun and a
burger). Apple, Mozilla, and Opera thus far are in full support and
already implementing compatability with HTML5, as the industry is wary of W3C's
lack of perspective when it comes to application development, deciding rather to work together towards a new
version of HTML more "Coder Friendly".
A brief snapshot at the changes in store includes built in Calendars, Address
Cards, Gauges, menus, Progress bars, and datagrids, Drag and drop functionality,
an amazing canvas element capable of doing some pretty incredible things
graphically and a whole host of form support.
Some things to remember, Compatability, as of right now, Internet explorer has
not jumped on the HTML5 bandwagon, and likely wont until its slapping them in
the face, but such is the way of Microsoft at times. Compatability is the
illusive beast of the web development world. Hours are spent on sites
making sure all, or atleast the top 10 can view them properly, so unless the
entire web browser industry jumps on board, and makes it happen, it likely wont
for a long time.
Speaking of time, HTML5 is the buzz word on the internet right now. As it should
be to keep interest high, and support for it higher, but do not hold your
breath. HTML5.0 is atleast 5 to 10 years away from being at the level of
use that our current HTML standards are.
