Calling your ISP technical support should be your last ditch effort to solving your problem. Why? Well, because it is usually time consuming, frustrating, and more often then they will admit, not helpful. When an ISP can get you off the phone by blaming your hardware, or software configuration as being outside thier realm of assistance, they will.
Here are some things you should always do before you call.
1. Reboot your computer
About 30% of all computer problems can be solved by a quick reboot. Not just a restart, actually shut down the computer and reboot it. For Added measure, you can unplug the power, and hold in the power button on the front of the case for 10 seconds.
2. Wait 20 minutes, and try again
Often times especially with password related issues, you can lock yourself out if you enter the wrong password a few times. These sometimes reset after 20 to 30 minutes.
3. Reset your modem.
Maybe I should have put this as #1, as my cable connection drops on me atleast once a day, and I can almost always bring it right back up simply by unplugging my modem, and plugging it back in.
4. IPconfig /flushdns
Try this from a command prompt (start->run->type in cmd) next time you are having trouble hitting your websites. What it does it clear your dns and force your computer to get a fresh dns.
Hope this helped. Call us if we can do anything for you.
