Are you missing the Internet Explorer Icon on your desktop? Fortunately, there is a pretty easy fix for this. The easiest is to go to the Microsoft article about this issue and use their “Fix It” link to have them do the work for you. You can find this article at: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/945402.
For you “do it yourself” people, you can cut and paste the following text into Notepad:
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\HideDesktopIcons\NewStartPanel]
"{871C5380-42A0-1069-A2EA-08002B30309D}"=dword:00000000
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\HideDesktopIcons\ClassicStartMenu]
"{871C5380-42A0-1069-A2EA-08002B30309D}"=dword:00000000
After you copied it to Notepad, simply save it to your desktop as Ie.reg file and then double-click the Ie file to run it. Click on “Yes” when prompted and it will make the registry change for you. After that, refresh your screen, and the Internet Explorer icon should pop up.
