People in general understand what cookies are, or rather what they do.
Cookies, with thier friendly name are a way of storing information about your usage on the internet. They are set by websites you visit. Usually they store helpful information about you so for usability's sake. I.e. Remember your username or screen preferances so you do not have to reset them next time you visit.
Occasionally, they are used to track you, most notably by the use of third party cookies. Third party cookies are capable of tracking information outside thier parent domain, and are almost always unneeded, unnecessary, and crossing the boundary into the realm of spying on you.
What you may not know is about flash cookies.
Flash cookies are used by Macromedia Flash to store information. Flash cookies are not erased when you do your usual routine to clear cookies. While cookies themselves pose little threat, a great deal of people feel they are infringing on thier privacy on the internet.
Here is how to remove flash cookies should you decide to:
1. Right click on a flash image.
2. Select "Settings"
3. Click the small icon that has a folder with a green arrow pointing inside
4. Make sure the "Never Ask Again" box is unchecked
5. Move the notch all the way to the left.
6. Click the Close button
And that's it, your flash cookies are now disabled.
